Yep, I'm jumping on the bandwagon too and ranting about this article.
I actually agree with some of it. I know that neither this country, its government nor the people that inhabit it are perfect. (Then again, is anything ever perfect?) However, reading this really managed to piss me off. Mainly because this person hit a very sore spot; he assumed that all United States Citizens are exactly alike.
Y'know what, buddy? Some of us do give a damn. There are people down here fighting for a switch to renewable resources. There have been tons of protests about Dubya. (Of course, the media doesn't cover them. Then again, I wonder if you did any research before making these claims or just watched the local news and then threw a bunch of preprocessed stereotypes together.)
Sites like The Misanthropic Bitch and The Nausea Manifesto point out the countries flaws in a much better way than your article. Many people in this country are fully aware of the flaws in the system.
Yes, some of us are pissed at the government. Some of us are sick of the lying media. Some of us are tired of the manufactured merchendice. And you know what? Some of us actually get off our fucking asses and try to make things a bit better. Don't shove us all into one neat, little pile. Sure, it's the easy thing to do, and it probably makes you feel superior, but it also makes you an idiot.
It doesn't take a genius to realize that all people are different. I don't need a member of MENSA to inform me that not everyone fits into nice, little stereotypes. I am not every person in this country, and none of them are me. There is a difference, and I'd really appreciate it if you would take the time to acknowledge it.
Admittedly, sometimes people need a good slap in the face before they are willing to look around them. If your article manages to do that, then I shall certainly appologize. However, I still think you could have written the same piece without stooping to such base accusations and childish assumptions.
And remember, "Let he among you who has no sin cast the first stone." Maybe you should take a good look at your own country before you start with the holier-than-thou attitude.
(I'd also like to mention that I know that Mr. McDougall does not speak for all Canadians. Most of you are much cooler than him ^^)
