It appears that I arrived in San Diego just in time for the May Gray/June Gloom weather that hits this part of the world in late spring. While it wasn't a big deal during my apartment hunt or the following moving-in, now that I'm settled, I'd like to see some nicer weather.
So one can imagine my joy when I awoke this morning to clear blue skies. I tossed on some clothes, grabbed my bag, jumped in the car, and headed out to the beach. (Alas, I had forgotten that it is Memorial Day weekend. I've seen bigger crowds, but still...) Finally, sunshine! I've been waiting ages for this!
I spent a lovely few hours laying on the sand, soaking up the sun, window shopping, and hopping around the rocks at low tide to peer into the tide pools.
I'd forgotten how I love the salty stink of the ocean.
I don't burn very easily, so it's rare for me to even own a bottle of sunblock. I'd also neglected the fact that the intensity of the sunlight at this latitude is stronger than what I am used to, and, having recently come out of a Michigan winter, I wouldn't have any sort of base tan built up.
Needless to say, my face, shoulders, upper back, upper chest, and arms are a stunningly vibrant shade of pink and rather tender. Well, that'll teach me...
