So, I apparently get my first paycheck this Thursday. I admit, I was very surprised when my boss informed me of said fact the other day. With all of my previous jobs, it took a week or two just to get me into the system, and then I had to wait until the end of the next pay period. Since my first day was only last Wednesday (or Monday, if you count sitting in orientation for eight hours), I wasn't expecting anything for another week or so.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Now then, my rent is paid up through August*, I already purchased a scanner, and I have tickets to Comic Con. Other than a student loan payment at the beginning of July (which I already have set aside funds for), I'm caught up with all of my necessities and then some. I want to go out and splurge on something. (Again)

I know I ought to save said money, but it's been so long since I've had a disposable income. And I've gotten so behind on the new anime series, and...

I'm contributing to the economy. Let's just look at it that way, shall we?

So (finally!), my question to you all is: can you give me any recommendations? Anime, books**, comics, and/or manga in particular. New music is always good, too.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Especially with anime; I've been out of the loop for so long that I haven't even heard of most of the series I see in the store, much less have a clue if they're good or not. (At least with manga, comics, and books, I can sit down and leaf through them a bit before I buy them.)

Many thanks in advance!

* Since I didn't have a job when I applied for the place, I had to pay for three month's rent up front.

** I gave away about 1/2 of my books before I moved. Admittedly, there were a lot of old sci-fi/fantasy novels that I hadn't read in years and can easily find at the local library, but it was like abandoning old friends in a way. So now all of my books fit onto just one bookcase - stacked two-deep on most shelves, admittedly - and it looks so pathetically empty to someone who loves being surrounded by the things.

Thanks!

Kingdom of Loathing looks like fun. I'll see if I can track them down at Comic Con. (If I don't freak out too much about getting to see Neil Gaiman and end up forgetting, that it... ^^;;)

I knew that you had gotten the name Emrys from a book, I just couldn't remember the title or author. I'll be sure to look those ones up. I like books that reference or allude to myths and legends and whatnot.

I love having money to spend again. ^_^

Neil Gaiman is going to be there? SWOON. Well, if you ever start playing KOL and start having trouble.... The KOL Wiki is your friend. :)

Yeah, Emrys is actually a boys name (Welsh), but I thought it would work well as an online alias.

Money is good. Hurry up and get Netflix so I can start sending you movie recommendations too! HEE.

Swooning is exactly what I'm afraid I'll do! Or stutter for five minutes straight or say something incredibly moronic.

I figure I ought to get a CA bank account before I go ahead and get a Netflix account. ^^ I'm so lazy. I still haven't done that... (I've got it schedualed for Monday, after work, though) or gotten a CA driver's license or plates.
